This is the 100 Interviews Series #10.
Interview with Matt the model who lives in the South Eastern United States. He has always had a creative streak, with performing arts as a kid, then visual arts, and in university some of his art students friends convinced him to model. It felt creative and natural. He has always been comfortable with nudity, as being a former swimming he was already use to being practically nude. He also saying he’s never been too modest.
Art modeling gave him new perspective. He says “ once you’re naked, you can’t get anymore naked” a phrasing that is very interesting. It’s a body, draw, celebrate, and appreciate is what I take from it.
While modeling in college he found it very social, and also met several cool instructors of the art classes that made it rewarding.
Now comes a change after college, its into a regular career and a 13-15 year break in modeling. In his career he has often found the Dilbert principle- my wording for his expression, to be true. That is some really you can say it, become management. This is a theme I explored in interviews 4, and 6, which I may have added my own comments on the work world too. For all us I’ll just say the harsh truth, our work worlds in life can be stunning filled with people in charge who haven’t a clue.
During covid he got back into modeling, and began picking up gigs. He now models every three weeks or so. One of his unique experiences was modeling for a sculptor making a two person sculpture. He did the first pose of the first figure, then posed as the second. He found it unique the artist had found a way to use one model, a very utilitarian technique.
He finds it’s refreshing to see not all nude art is erotic or sexual. He has had an chance to meet people around the world in the art community, and had good chats.
His future he would like modeling to tie into trips, i.e meeting people and bonus bucks on trips. In his off time he cooks for his husband, and he is good with indoor plants, but if they go outside they will not do so well.
he has a question for future interviewees? “ what is it about spending 15-30 minutes of your day with a stranger naked on the phone, why did you say yes”
Will you interview next?
I enjoyed this interview, and I have more questions I wish I asked, including more on swimming as a sport, and on cooking. The big topic nude art tends to lead these interviews, but a major part is also getting to know and write about the person.
What questions do you have for our model? Leave them in the comments.
